Beanie For A Bun (knit)

I have had shorter hair for many winters but recently I have been growing out my hair. Where does all the hair go with a hat?? My slouchy hat is a go-to to tuck messy buns and pony tails and whatever lopsided-hair-day into. BUT GUESS WHAT?!?! I made a "beanie for a bun."

Ingredients
  • Yarn: 1 skein Patons ColorWul (bulky 5, 3oz approx 90 yards, 100% wool, hand wash, lay flat to dry)
  • Needles: 16" circular needles in size 10 (6.0mm) and size 11 (8.0mm)
  • Notions: 1 stitch marker, tapestry needle
  • Gauge: If using 6.5mm needles, 14 sts x 19 rows = 4 inches stockinette (note, this is from the yarn label, I never do swatches...just math in my head if using different yarns/needle sizes)
  • Size: Adult (it's really stretchy)
Abbreviations
  • CO: cast on
  • k: knit stitch
  • p: purl stitch
  • k2tog: knit two stitches together
  • rep: repeat
  • rnd(s): round(s)
  • st(s): stitch(es)
Recipe
  • Using smaller size needles, CO 52 sts, join in the rnd being careful not to twist. Place stitch marker to mark beginning of the rnd.
  • *k2, p2; rep from * to end and continue until it measuress 2 1/4 inches from CO edge
  • change to bigger needles
  • *p for 5 rnds then k for 4 rnds; repeat from *3 more times
  • *k2tog; rep from * to end
  • Bind off. Weave ends in.
