#GreenOnionProject

Spring.
I know you’re just around the corner.
I hear the birds singing your song.
I see the snow melting off the sidewalks.
I feel the teasing warmth of afternoon sunshine.
I taste vine-ripened tomatoes in my dreams.
I smell the thawing dirt.

She’s wearing a cream cardigan over a gray dress and holding a white cup with a yellow flowering Artemisia plant. Inside the cup is hot barley tea.]

Lawns are still covered in snow but there are peeks of last year's grass peeking through areas that have been warmed by the sun. Meanwhile, it isn't quite time to start outdoor gardening yet so we've got some growing going on indoors!

[Image from top view down at a bunch of green onions with the bottoms chopped off. The green onions are laying on a bamboo cutting board next to a pairing knife.]

Have you tried growing green onions in a cup of water??? This is our first time.

Three days later...

Two days after the last photo...

A week from the start...
[Image of a clear laundry detergent cup next to a yellow cup on a red and white kitchen towel by a window. Each have bottoms of green onions in water. Left one has the onions supported by a rolled up paper towel in the center to keep them from falling over. The tops have green coming up. The one on the right was started two days ago.]

What are you dreaming up for the garden this summer? Have you started already?? What's on your wish list? When we lived in warmer climates with shorter winters, we started our gardens in March-ish. The growing season was so much longer. Here, where winter seems to take up nearly half the year, the plants almost seem to grow twice as fast just to catch up and make the most of the sunshine and warm weather! Happy growing wherever you are!

I'll be snapping pics of our green onions with the hashtag #GreenOnionProject on my Instagram account @WearingPluotAndKumquat. Follow the project there!
