Project Bags
I recently made several project bags inspired by a tutorial on Spruce Crafts "How to Sew a Knitting or Crochet Project Bag." The basic fabric measurements I followed and then I added on loops for D-rings for stitch markers, swivel snaphooks for yarn guides, some times two over the shoulder straps, some times one longer loop on the side for an over the shoulder strap, pockets, etc. I don't have measurements for those because I used remnant fabrics most of the time and just kinda eyeballed those as I went. I will say, pin pin pin (if you don't usually)!! You'll have much straighter results and less backtracking (seam ripper *cough* *cough*). Getting those seams lined right up is something I just squeal over! Playing with patterns and color is so much fun. I love remnant bins (at the store and my own at home!) to find what works together.
Here are photos of ones I have made with notes!
Here are photos of ones I have made with notes!
The Teal Birds One
- I. Love. Birds. And. Flowers.
- cotton twill for the boxed bottom
- KAM snaps for the buttons
- cotton twill for a double pocket inside
- cotton webbing for the side loop
The Orange Hummingbirds One
- I. Love. Birds. And. Flowers.
- cotton duck or home decor inside/outside (but still cotton) fabric, not really sure what it is, for the boxed bottom
- fabric from boxed bottom used for dual pocket inside
- quilter's cotton for the upper outer fabric and inside lining and loops
- loop made for a D-ring to hold stitch markers
- longer loop on the side to go over a shoulder and can be tied in a bow when not in use
The Cycling Hedgehogs One
- Could this fabric be any cuter?!!?!? I mean, they're cycling hedgehogs!!
- two cotton webbing shoulder straps
- yellow heart KAM snap buttons (CUTEST EVER to go with the CUTEST EVER fabric)
- duck cotton canvas for the boxed bottom and dual pockets inside
- loop for D-ring for stitch markers
The Herb Garden One
- I come from generations of gardeners and makers. I married into generations of gardeners and makers.
- denim boxed bottom and inside pocket
- cotton webbing for dual shoulder straps
- orange heart KAM snaps
- green gingham side loop (for a carabiner and small water bottle or keys or small pouch of notions maybe??)
The Purple Floral One
- My favorite color is purple. All shades of purple.
- I forgot to add on the interior pocket so I ended up adding the pockets on the outside.
- Added a snap button to the outside pocket so things don't fall out. Not in love with how it doesn't line up with the top closure snaps but I'll be okay with it!
- side loop to go on wall hook or on wrist for knitting on the go
- small loop over the top with D-ring for removable stitch markers
- two loops over the top for swivel snaphooks that act as yarn guides
The Sage One
- This one is so peaceful. Inspired by nature. Inspired by the lake and sky and plants.
- Wearing my children has been an integral part of my journey as a mother. In this special project bag are several fabric pieces from woven wraps.
- KAM snaps for top button closure
- Because the interior lining is a very lightweight chambray, used cotton canvas for both exterior fabrics (ran out of heavyweight interfacing so used mid-weight throughout otherwise I might've used heavyweight interfacing with the chambray for more structure but the canvas exterior did the trick!).
- Cotton webbing for the side strap, long enough to go over a shoulder.
- Interior dual pocket and single pocket from babywearing woven wrap scrap (Bijou Wear's Arcadia Sky and Misfit Mermaid).
- Swivel snaphook fabric loop made from babywearing woven wrap scrap (Bijou Wear's Lilies Teal).
- Fabric loop for rectangular ring for stitch markers made from babywearing woven wrap scrap (Bijou Wear's Canopy Flora).
The Donut One
- cake or donut? yes, please and thank you!
- denim boxed base
- cotton webbing wrist strap on side
- pockets on both sides of interior made from babywearing woven wrap scrap (Bijou Wear's Decadence Skyline and Plaidass Juliette)
- small loops for rectangular ring and swivel snap hook made from babywearing woven wrap scrap (Bijou Wear's Misfit Unicorn and Spun Sugar Waves)
The Sloth One
- denim boxed base
- cotton webbing shoulder straps
- side wrist strap
- interior pockets made from babywearing woven wrap scrap (Bijou Wear's Spun Sugar Waves)
- small loop for rectangular ring made from babywearing woven wrap scrap (Bijou Wear's Abstract Daybreak)
