I really like bags. Big bags. Small bags. Zipper bags. Drawstring bags. Bags in bags in bags..... Though there's still snow on the ground, the smell of spring is in the air. I was inspired to pull together fabric and materials to sew up a drawstring project bag today. This size can easily hold a pair of socks and possibly a small or medium-ish sized shawl (I suppose it also depends on how many different yarn cakes are needed). I followed Mollie's "How to Sew a Drawstring Bag" (
https://www.thesprucecrafts.com/how-to-sew-a-drawstring-bag-4685165) tutorial. It's clear, concise, and has photos with each step.
Below are some notes on things I did differently or took up her suggestions on:
- fusible interfacing to outer fabric because I like my bags to stand up
- boxed bottom because I like my bags to stand up
- little cotton loop inside and fabric loop with rectangular ring inside for removable progress keepers
- didn't have rope or cord on hand so I used ribbon and natural wooden ball beads to secure the ends from going through the drawstring channel
LOOOOOOOOOOOVE IT and looking forward to making more!!! This was a couple hour project of focused time. You could also break it up into cutting out pieces, sewing pieces, etc but I find my work flow most efficient when I can sit down and do it all at once.
3/7/2020-Edited to add another bag!
- organic cotton ribbon
- two different exterior fabrics
- added another 1/2 inch to width of drawstring channel
- the rest I did the same as my first bag
