Baby Carrier Review: Bijou Wear Arcadia Hippo

If you're a hugger you might love this wrap. If you wish you were a hugger, you might love this wrap. The stretch and recoil of this wrap is like none other. Wearing Arcadia Hippo is like wearing a hug.

Do you like texture? Ohhhhh the texture. It's literally like wearing lots of puffy clouds. It's light and airy yet not thin. I love running my hands over the wrap. The feel is so so good.

Wrap Nap

This wrap takes minimal breaking in. The gauzy layers woven together keep it light and loose yet still supportive. As a base length here, we gave this wrap a go in multiple front and back carries. It makes the most moldable chest pass any double hammock has ever seen. We tried one carry that ended up a flop and my big kid said, "Mom, the carry isn't comfy but this wrap is comfy!"

Double Hammock

Arcadia Hippo is something unique. Though loose in weave, it isn't saggy. It's cushy without being overwhelming. The delicate intricacies of the weave are mesmerizing. I didn't find it the easiest to tighten through a slip knot due to its grip (compared to wraps with more glide) but it sure held a knot! It shined in single, double, and triple layer carries; staying breathable with the multi-layer carries and supportive with the single. My shoulders were wearing clouds for shoulder pads during an epic three hour wrap nap. My back took it as no big deal.

Summary: Wrap It Up

Below is a summary of things that might make you go for Arcadia Hippo, or not. Keep in mind that the list is subjective and you may love the wrap even if you check off more than half the things for the "not for me" list below.

This may not be love at first wrap if you're looking for:
  • lots of glide
  • more color
  • super soapy
  • dense weave
  • thin with a small knot
This might be your cup of tea if you're looking for:
  • dry feel
  • grippier
  • breathable
  • monochrome
  • looser weave
  • lots of texture
  • something unique
  • ace bandage stretch
  • cush without a dense weight
  • something easy on picky shoulders
  • a knot bigger than a newborn's head
With that, here's the wrap in action. Happy wearing!
