Baby Carrier Review: Bijou Wear Decadence Showstopper

My last carrier review was on Bijou Wear's Arcadia Hippo, a super unique gauzy weave ultra-cush but not heavy woven wrap that is just so unique, did I say unique already? Well, the Decadence series is also unique. It's also got mega cush but in a different way.

Arcadia is to pillow top as Decadence is to memory foam. Yup. Both super cushy in their own ways. Decadence is denser. Arcadia is looser. Decadence is narrower in width. Arcadia is wider in width.

Okay okay. So you haven't tried Arcadia. Let's keep talking about Decadence Showstopper.

For Science

Jewel-tones and saturated vibrant colors are my jam. The pink, blue, and black yarns of Showstopper are intricately woven together in their Egyptian cotton yum in a double weft black warp dance. The colors are vibrant due to the black warp (compared to ecru or white warps). This is a statement piece alright. Showstopper lives up to its name. Or rather, the name lives up to it?

Both kids are worn very comfortably in Showstopper. Though the width of the wrap is narrower, my older child typically prefers arms out, so the narrower width isn't really an issue here - if she wanted arms in, I'm not sure I'd be able to comfortably get a deep seat and have the wrap go up to her shoulders. Plus, I was never a fan of Shepard's Back Carry until this wrap. The narrower width makes it feel less overwhelming for me across the chest. The cush makes it comfy on the shoulders. The grip holds that knot in place with zero budge.

We've given several base minus two and three carries a go in this wrap (it's a base minus two here). It rocks a solid slip knot (aka lark's head knot). I'm not sure we've even needed to go to a double knot.... One-shouldered or two-shouldered carries it holds up well in both - I don't mind weight in my shoulders to begin with but for those with pickier shoulders you might be okay with memory foam cush (though if you prefer less dense, I'd say try the Arcadia series).

Summary: Wrap It Up

Below is a summary of things that might make you go for Decadence Showstopper, or not. Keep in mind that the list is subjective and you may love the wrap even if you check off more than half the things for the "not for me" list below.

This may not be love at first wrap if you're looking for:
  • thin
  • really wide
  • low texture
  • super glidey
  • a size other than 3, 4, or 5 (what they were released in, though some may have been chopped or converted into ring slings)
This might be your cup of tea if you're looking for:
  • grip
  • texture
  • memory foam cush
  • slightly narrower width
  • bold saturated jewel-tones

Sending you off with Showstopper in action! Wear on!
