Baby Carrier Review: Bijou Wear Misfit River

Do you love blue? How about something blue that is cushy, smooshy, and supportive?
Two words. Misfit. River.

[Close-up image of a blue and ecru disjointed geo-camo woven wrap in waves of texture. Blue and navy threads of texture yum. Lighting is warm afternoon sun with interplay of shadows demonstrating the range of blue in different lighting.]

Ohhhhhhhhhh yesssssssssssss!

[Image of a tan skin child with light brown hair and a tan skin bespectacled Asian woman with dark brown hair. Child is worn on woman's back in a blue and ecru disjointed geocamo woven wrap carrier. Both child and woman are making exaggerated surprised silly faces with raised eyebrows, lips in an "O," and eyes wide open. Child has hands up by face.]

Stats:

  • Carrier: Bijou Wear Misfit River
  • Material: Eco2cotton/Tencel (aka EcoCel)
  • Length: size 6 (approximately 185"/4.7m), base plus one here
  • Width: approximately 28.7"/73 cm
  • Density: approximately 340 grams per square meter
  • Wearees:
    • child (approximately 35 pounds/16 kilograms)
    • toddler (approximately 25 pounds/11.3 kilograms)

Misfit River is so comfortable to wear right after first wash. It literally poofs right up and is soft in hand. It has that signature texture that comes with Bijou's Misfit line. Ebb and flow. "EcoCel" is "Eco2cotton®, a nubby recycled yarn, combined with a low percentage of TENCEL®. The combination of fibers makes for an excellent combination of a drape that feels comfortable in hand, provides support in single and multi-layer passes, and has grip to lock those passes in place.

Imagine this. Toddler is having a meltdown and needs a safe place to be. You put the toddler up as fast as you can before the turbulence is unleashed further. Now imagine that your wrap job has those come-out-of-nowhere-slack-pockets. Just imagine. Well, Misfit River does the job. The swirling energies dissipate into the ebb and flow of Misfit River. Relax. Breathe in. Breathe out. Rub those toes. Dry those tears. Work out that slack now if you'd like but if you feel like the carry is safe and secure, let the slack be and go pour yourself another hot beverage (or re-heat the one you forgot in the microwave).

She's wearing a toddler on her back in a blue and ecru disjointed geo-camo patterned woven wrap carrier in a carry referred to as a "strangleproof ruck." Toddler's sparkling eye peeks over one shoulder. Toddler is dangling a baby doll over Mama's shoulder. In toddler's other hand is a book. Mama has one hand on a gray mug with medallion text "wear babies" around a threaded B logo. Her other hand holds onto toddler's foot. They're in front of a beige wall. Mama's outfit is white and gray. Toddler has on navy velour leggings and heart print socks.]

This would be an awesome year round wrap I think. Take it to the lake in a shorter length and put that sun-kissed baby up in a hip carry to walk back from the beach. Got a longer hike to see the fall colors or the budding blooms? Double hammock hands down (and hands free!). Others want to go sledding but it's nap time for the littlest one? Cozy it up in a front wrap cross carry and watch comfortably from the sidelines. But...you don't have to take my word for it! See below for a maybe yes, maybe no summary and make up your own mind about Misfit River!

Summary: Wrap It Up

Below is a summary of things that might make you go for Misfit River, or not. Keep in mind that the list is subjective and you may love the wrap even if you check off more than half the things for the "not for me" list below.

This may not be love at first wrap if you're looking for:
  • lots of glide
  • thinner density
  • narrower width
  • something not blue
  • lots of stretch/recoil
  • a wrap with a more obvious "right" and "wrong" side
This might be your cup of tea if you're looking for:
  • texture/nubs
  • #NoWrongSide
  • smoosh and cush
  • low maintenance
  • a bit of stretch/recoil
  • minimal breaking in
  • grip but not sweating buckets grippy
  • forgiving of less-than-perfect-wrap-jobs
  • wearing toddlers/children-who-are-no-longer-squishes
