Bear Beanie

It finally feels like fall/winter here! Bring on the hats and scarves! To celebrate, I made a Bear Beanie. It's a pretty standard beanie of sc and dc but with added ear flaps and ears.

Chain 5 and join to form a loop, ch 2 (don’t count as a dc of the next round)

ROUND 1: 12 dc in loop, join with a ss, ch 2 (12 dc) (remember to not count the ch 2 as a dc)

ROUND 2: 2 dc in ea st, join with a ss. (24 dc)

ROUND 3: Ch 2, (dc in next st, 2 dc in next st) repeat around, join with a ss. (36 Sts)

ROUND 4: Ch 2, (dc in next 2 st, 2 dc in next st) repeat around, join with a ss. (48 Sts)

ROUND 5: Ch 1, sc in ea st, join with a ss. (48 sc)

ROUND 6: Ch 1, sc in ea st, join with a ss. (48 sc)

ROUND 7: Ch 2, (dc in 3 st, 2 dc in next st) repeat around, join with a ss. (60 Sts)

ROUND 8: Ch 1, sc in ea st, join with a ss. (60 Sts)

ROUND 9: Ch 1, sc in ea st, join with a ss. (60 Sts)

ROUND 10: Ch 2, (dc in 4 st, 2 dc in next st) repeat around, join with a ss. (72 Sts)

ROUND 11: Ch 1, sc in ea st, join with a ss. (72 Sts)

ROUND 12: Ch 1, sc in ea st, join with a ss. (72 Sts)

ROUND 13: Ch 2, dc every st, join with a ss. (72 Sts)

ROUND 14: Ch 1, sc in ea st, join with a ss. (72 Sts)

ROUND 15: Ch 1, sc in ea st, join with a ss. (72 Sts)

ROUND 18: Ch 1, sc in each sc. (72 Sts), do not fasten off.

For 1st ear flap (worked back and forth in rows, with 1 less stitch in each row):
Row 1: Sc in each of the next 14 st
Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Skip 1st st, sc in next 13 st
Row 3: Ch 1, turn. Skip 1st st, sc to end of row.
Repeat last row until 1 st remains.
Chain 24 (or longer as desired).
Sc in each st back up the chain.
Sc around edge of ear flap until you get back up to rim of beanie.

Sc in 22 st around rim of beanie, place a marker and sc in each of the next 14 st to begin 2nd ear flap. Follow same instructions for 1st ear flap.

Sc around edging of beanie and to other edge 1st ear flap. Fasten off. Go back and finish other edging of 2nd ear flap. Fasten off. Weave in all ends.

For the ears, make two of the following:
Ch 2.
Round 1: Work 6 sc in first ch; place a marker to indicate beg of rnd; move marker as each round is completed.
Round 2: 2 sc in each sc around - 12 sc.
Rounds 3 and 4: Sc in each sc around. Fasten off with a long tail.
Stitch on ears around row 5-6 of beanie, weave in loose ends.
