Trifle Infinity Scarf

I am obsessed with scarves. Solid. Striped. Floral. Fringe. Circular. Cotton. Short. Long. Wool. Practical. Decorative. You name it, I probably have it...or I just haven't found the perfect one yet. In fact, I even have a drawer devoted to my collection.

This infinity scarf I crocheted using a few basic stitches and a couple new ones I hadn't tried before. This scarf is worked in rounds - hence "infinity." The main color doesn't get fastened off so the only ends you have to weave in are the color changes! The pattern below is based on using 2 colors (A and B) so if you use more colors like I did, just keep track of what color you're on and if it's supposed to be "A" or "B."

The pattern is adapted from http://www.caron.com/projects/ss/ss_christmas_cactus_scarf.pdf.

Crochet hook size H/8 5.00mm (pattern says to use a 6.5mm hook but I prefer a denser feel)

Fhdc: Foundation half double crochet (This technique creates a foundation chain and a row of half double crochet stitches in one)
  • Step 1: Place a slip knot on hook, ch 3, yarn over, insert hook in 3rd ch from hook and draw up a loop; yarn over and draw through one loop on hook (the "chain"); yarn over and draw through 3 loops on hook (the "half double crochet").
  •  Step 2: Yarn over, insert hook into the "chain" of the previous stitch and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through one loop on hook (the "chain"), yarn over and draw through 3 loops on hook (the "half double crochet"). Repeat step 2 for the length of foundation
Round 1: With A and leaving an 8"/20.5cm tail, Fhdc 153; taking care not to twist sts, join with sl st in top of first Fhdc to form a ring, turn—153 sts.

Round 2: Ch 1, hdc in each st around; join with sl st in first hdc andchange to B, turn. Fasten off A.

Round 3: With B, ch 2, insert hook in 2nd ch from hook and draw up a loop, insert hook in same st as join and draw up a loop (3 loops on hook), [insert hook in next st and draw up a loop] 2 times (5 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through all 5 loops on hook, *ch 1 (eyelet cluster completed, ch-1 forms the eyelet), insert hook in eyelet just made and draw up a loop, insert hook in same st as last loop of previous eyelet cluster and draw up a loop, [insert hook in next st and draw up a loop] 2 times (5 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through all 5 loops on hook; repeat from * around; join with sl st in top of beginning ch (final eyelet cluster completed), turn—76 eyelet clusters.

Round 4: Ch 2 (counts as first hdc), 2 hdc in first eyelet (created by join), 2 hdc in each remaining eyelet around; join with sl st in top of beginning ch and change to A, turn—153 sts. Drop, but do not cut B.

Round 5: With A, ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in each st around; join with sl st in top of beginning ch and change to B, DO NOT TURN. Fasten off A.

Rounds 6–8: Repeat Rounds 3–5.

Rounds 9 and 10: Repeat Round 3 and 4. Fasten off B.

Rounds 11 and 12: With A, ch 1, hdc in each st around; join with sl st in top of first hdc, turn. Fasten off.

FINISHING
With beginning tail, sew together first and last hdc of first round. Using yarn needle, weave in all ends.
