Baby Carrier Review: Bijou Wear Cleo Broadway

I've always had a thing for stripes and floral, mix n' match. Dots and floral, mix n' match. All of the above (with solids), mix n' match.

Blue. Purple. And Ecru.
AAAAAAAAAAND it's no secret that I'm #TeamPurpleEverything. Like all shades of purple.

[Image of me, a light tan skin Asian woman with dark brown hair, from smiling lips through torso, wearing a finally napping toddler on my back in a grayish purplish geofloral woven wrap baby carrier in a double hammock back carry. The wrap is spread across my chest, pleated over my shoulders, and double knotted at my waist. Toddler toes peek out at my side. I have on a green, yellow, and white patterned sleeveless top with a sloppy bow hanging over the chest pass. In my hand is an adorable purple locally made mug with a fancy B on its belly.]
These Colors Together Get All The Heart Eyes

So then there's this woven wrap made by Bijou Wear, called Cleo Broadway and I'm like, hold up, you have my attention. The abstract floral combined with geometric lines, up my aesthetics alley - referred to by the Bijou Wear boss as "geofloral." The low TENCEL®/ high cotton warp gives a little glide to the grip without losing the support you some times find in TENCEL® blends.

[Image is a graphic of two photos against a grayish-purple background. The text in white says the name of woven wrap featured, Cleo Broadway. Both images have a grayish-purple geofloral patterened woven wrap baby carrier neatly folded on top of a white ceramic cake plate next to a potted orchid plant, on a wood table. The left photo is of the woven wrap in "loom state." The right photo is of the woven wrap post-wash, also referred to as "bloom state" and it's folded the same way as the first photo but has poofed so it looks bigger and fluffier.]
Loom to Bloom (pre and post first wash/dry)
Though densely woven at approximately 310 grams per square meter, it's so breathable. It feels medium-thin in hand and breaks in pretty quickly. The texture gives it grip that make semi-sloppy jobs still secure and yet still easy to tighten without working up a sweat. We wore it during the summer and loved it but at base plus one, we reached more for quick ups in our base minus two Abstract Daybreak.

Double Hammock with a Loop Candy Cane Chest Belt
Both children have been worn pretty regularly in this woven wrap. Cleo Broadway shines in both single layer and multi-layer carries. Not saggy. Not sweaty grippy. Not super soapy. It's like that perfect middle ground wrap. It's like that best friend within walking distance that you can always call on for coffee or a quick play date before dinner. It's comfortable. It makes me (and my wearees!) feel content.

I'm holding a wiggly toddler in front who's wearing a mama-made pink floral sundress. We're outside in the shade of a 90F sunny day.]

Big Kid Wearing

Summary: Wrap It Up

Below is a summary of things that might make you go for Cleo Broadway, or not. Keep in mind that the list is subjective and you may love the wrap even if you check off more than half the things for the "not for me" list below.

This may not be love at first wrap if you're looking for:
  • lots of stretch/recoil
  • cushy, smooshy, and thick
  • lots of grip or super glidey
  • lots of texture or super smooth
This might be your cup of tea if you're looking for:
  • breathable
  • flatter feel
  • microtexture
  • a first woven wrap
  • forgiving wrap jobs
  • medium-thin weight
  • minimal stretch/recoil
  • a little texture, a little grip
  • something that's great for newborn through toddlerhood
  • jacquard woven with distinctive sides (one side is more ecru, the other side is more grayish-purplish)
With that, here's the wrap in action. Happy wearing!
