Nordic Snowflake Hat (knit)

I have been looking forward to making a snowflake patterned something for awhile but it looks so complicated!!! BUT GUESS WHAT?! Colors charts are awesome and so fun to follow because it's like the chart comes to life in your hands!!! Really. So. Much. Fun.

[Heathered pinkish purple knit hat on pink aluminum circular knitting needles with a cream snowflake pattern in the works next to skeins of yarn in a drawstring bag and print-out pattern featuring a colorwork chart of the snowflake with a post-it covering up the rows yet to be worked.]

PatternCARON NORDIC FLAKE HAT

Yarn Used: Lion Brand Wool-Ease in Dark Heathered Rose and Fisherman

Notes:

  • The pattern's yarn is 100% acrylic and the one I used is 80% acrylic/20% wool and from my experience, wool or wool blends yarns tend to have a little more bounce and tightens up some compared to 100% acrylic yarns.
  • Used 16 inch circular knitting needles and double pointed needles at the end of the shaping instead of knitting the whole hat on double pointed needles as indicated in the pattern.
  • I got bored with ribbing 2x2 so I ended it a little early and changed to stockinette for the last inch before starting the first color chart.
  • My initial cast on wasn't the right number because it was actually started for a different hat but I decided I liked this pattern more so I just added one the needed number of stitches using "kfb" evenly distributed before starting the color chart.
  • Did the pom in the contrast color instead of the main color as indicated in the pattern.

Finished knitted snowflake patterned dust pink purple hat with cream pom to match snowflakes. Hat is on head of a child whose face isn't visible. Child is wearing a winter coat outside.
