Coral Linen Maxi Skirt

 Summer time! Maxi skirt season!
Elastic Waist Maxi Skirt with POCKETS

My skirt is inspired by LeAna's Tutorial for an Elastic Waist Skirt at {A Small Snippet}. Excellent tutorial AND POCKETS (I'm a sucker for anything with pockets!)!!!

What I did (because I follow tutorials the best I can for what I have and then end up changing things as I go...):
  • Didn't have any fabric scrap leftover! LOVE that. Dimensions: 30" x 2 for the width (27" waist plus 3"), 44" length (40" plus 4" for casing).
  • Serged most edges (didn't have to fold over twice for casing or any of the hemming)
  • Used 1.5" elastic instead of 2" (but maybe I'll try the 2" on the next skirt!) mostly because I was planning on using 1" elastic because that's what I already had at home but once I made it at that width, I didn't like how gathered it looked so I went for the 1.5" (couldn't go for 2" because pockets were sewn at only 4" down from the top instead of the 6" per the tutorial for a 2" elastic waistband). Elastic length=waist circumference minus 3"=24".
  • No lining because fabric isn't see-through.
  • For next time, make bigger pockets and serge edges prior to sewing in the pockets (tutorial used knit pockets so didn't have to account for fraying like my broadcloth did - I had to serge after they were sewn in which didn't look at clean in the corners where they joined the skirt, fortunately it's all on the inside so you can't see it!).
  • Hemmed slits on the sides, 14" up from the bottom for easier walking and a breeze!
