Knit Project #10: Prepster Beanie

Gotta love classic colors like kelly green and navy. The cotton yarn I used works up a super soft baby beanie. Love how stretchy knit hats are so fit a wide range of ages! This one sizes around 0-12 months (for the younger months, can fold up the brim).

Notes:

  • "I Love This Cotton" yarn from Hobby Lobby 100% cotton in Apple Green and Dark Denim; medium weight (4); 5mm size 8 straight knitting needles; 18 stitches by 23 rows = 4"x4"
  • cast on 64
  • ribbing of 2 knit 2 purl, repeat until 1 inch wide; at end of row, when flipped over, purl where knits were on the front
  • 4 rows main color, 2 rows alternate color (knit on right side, purl on wrong side) until 5 inches reached from cast on edge
  • decreasing:
    • round 1: knit 6, k2tog. repeat until row ends
    • round 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12: purl
    • round 3: knit 5, k2tog. repeat until row ends
    • round 5: knit 4, k2tog. repeat until row ends
    • round 7: knit 3, k2tog. repeat until row ends
    • round 9: knit 2, k2tog. repeat until row ends
    • round 11: knit 1, k2tog, repeat until row ends
    • round 13: k2tog. repeat until row ends
  • cut yarn, leaving a 12 inch tail for closing top and mattress stitch hat together

    • ribbed brim 10 inch circumference (stretches to 15 inches)
    • top of crown to bottom edge: 6.5 inches
    • sized 0-12 months (fold up edge for smaller newborn)
